Calcicera Alta is a secluded house with large pool and spectacular 180-degree sea views. Set in 10 acres of mature olive and almond groves and vineyards, it's surrounded by unspoilt wild countryside and rural farmland. Perfect for those who wish to tune in – or tune out. Escape back to the land in your private and luxurious home away from home.
The house is situated overlooking the Vendicari Nature Reserve and the Golfo di Noto, just a short drive from the coast, the location commands spectacular sea views from Siracuse to the furthest South Eastern tip of Sicily. The nearest historic town is Noto, which is a UNESCO world heritage site. There's plenty to do if you want to explore the local area and ample sport activities for the more adventurous.
Calcicera Alta is a family house with 2,000sqf of living space – children are welcome and well behaved pets will be considered. It's well set up for children with an open plan sitting room and kitchen area. Bedrooms are situated on the four corners of the house sharing two bathrooms. With thick limestone walls, white render and double height ceilings, it is cool in the summer months and warm in the winter. The house is self sufficient and environmentally friendly with its own 300ft deep water borehole and solar generated electricity to generate a very low carbon footprint. Outside, the house and pool are surrounded by 5m terraces which have been planted with lavender and santolina. It is a recently built property and we are slowly landscaping and planting around the house. There is a large shaded area for outdoor eating and entertaining.
Calcicera Alta can be rented separately or together with Casa Pedro for larger bookings (to sleep parties of up to 12 people).

There is the choice of the many beaches on the nature reserve or the more tourist orientated and private beaches towards San Lorenzo and Lido di Noto. We loved this beautiful house and especially the fabulous location. The house feels very spacious as it has generous rooms with very high ceilings and is decorated with interesting artwork and antiques. Everything we needed was provided and Giovanni who lives nearby looked after us very well (Mamma’s focaccia was delicious). The garden is beautifully kept and stylish with old olive trees and the amazing view is 360-degree to the sea and of olive groves. Very quiet and peaceful but not too far from bars and restaurants and good supermarkets. We loved the area, Vendicari the local nature reserve was near by and was good for birdwatching, some archaeology and pretty beaches. Highlights were Syracuse (take the bus to Ortigia from the archaeology Park), Mirameze (local fishing village with good restaurants and shops), Noto (beautiful baroque town) and the local Roman villa was also worth a visit. We would definitely recommend this house to anyone who likes undeveloped areas and to experience local culture with plenty to do and see locally.”
