Sandy beaches and the Vendicari Nature Reserve are just 15 minutes away by car. Noto is the nearest historic town, a UNESCO world heritage site, it's about 20 minutes by car. Rosolini and Pacchino are both 20–25 minutes by car and Siracuse about 40 minutes. Catania is about an hour, Modica, Ragusa, Scigli and Pollazallo also about an hour. As Churchill famously said, "go into the sunshine and be happy with what you see." There is so much to discover in the local area – from lively beach bars, contemporary shops and authentic restaurants to incredible architecture and a truly impressive coastline. Places to explore
SyRACUSE / ORTIGA ISLAND
There is a wonderful morning food market in the old town of Ortigia. There are some great restaurants, churches, Piazzas and the Greek Duomo in Ortigia to see. Approx. 40mins drive
MODICA
There is the old road (SP 17) between Noto and Rosolini to Modica that is a nice drive with some beautiful old carob trees along the way. Modica is higher up and, being inland, a little cooler in climate. It is famous for its chocolate. Approx. 1 hour drive
PALAZZOLO
Drive to Noto Alta and keep going, following the signs - it’s a lovely country drive. Apart from Andreas restaurant, there is the Greek Theatre and catacombs which are rarely busy, peaceful and scenic. Palazzolo is known for its sausages and salamis. Approx. 1 hour drive
MARZAMENI
A small old fishing village dominated by it’s Piazza and church, part of a beautiful old Palazzo once belonging to the Prince of Noto and still remaining in family hands. There are some good restaurants, (Balata, Girampo, Cialonna...) and little bars making delicious ice creams and iced coffee. Approx. 25mins drive
NOTO ANTICA
The site of the original town of Noto before it was rebuilt after the famous 1693 earthquake. It is best visited in springtime for the wild flowers and walking. Approx. 20mins drive
